Bay State Games Future Leaders Scholarship

The Future Leaders Scholarship, which awards six $2000 college scholarships to Bay State Games participants, aims to identify young men and women who will be tomorrow’s leaders. The Massachusetts Amateur Sports Foundation is proud to award these scholarships to six student-athletes who demonstrate leadership through community service, academic excellence and athletic achievement.

Over the past 20 years, over $200,000 has been distributed to students who wish to continue their education. Past recipients have gone on to successful careers at prestigious institutions including Boston College, Colby College, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Princeton University, Providence College, Stanford University, Trinity College, Tufts University, University of Notre Dame, University of Pennsylvania and Wake Forest University.

The Massachusetts Amateur Sports Foundation awards these scholarships because it believes the true value of athletic participation lies not in the outcome, but in the lessons learned. Sports teach responsibility to self and to others, foster a sense of self-worth and develop an appreciation for the importance of setting goals and working to achieve them. If learned well, these lessons help make effective leaders - in business, education and the community.

ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must be:
* A Junior (11th grader) at any Massachusetts secondary school as of the 2009-2010 academic year, regardless of state of residence OR a Massachusetts resident who is a Junior (11th grader), even if he or she attends school out-of-state.
* Registered and agree to participate in the 2010 Bay State Winter Games or Summer Games at every level for which he/ she qualifies (tryouts, qualifiers, finals). You DO NOT need to make the Finals or be on a Final Roster to qualify.

Big Sun Scholarship

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. In order to do our part we are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in.

Good Sport Scholarship presented by Hood Milk

The Hood® Good Sport™ Scholarship Program, Presented by Hood Milk, rewards high school student athletes with $5,000 towards furthering their education at a 2 or 4 year accredited college or university.

For more than 160 years, Hood has been committed to supporting families and communities across New England. Hood is proud to be able to give 18 student athletes each a $5,000 college scholarship.

To be eligible, high school seniors must have proven their ability to put the spirit of competition above winning while participating in a varsity level sport. These students must have also earned a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher and performed volunteer work in the community.

Applicants will be asked to write an essay explaining why they are a good sport on and off the field.

Each student who meets these standards and completes the essay will then be voted on by the community in an online competition. We encourage schools, students, and members of the community to visit Hood.com between March 29th and April 30th to vote for their “Good Sport.”  The top 15 applicants from each New England state who have received the most votes will be interviewed by an independent panel of judges.

NCAA

NCAA Initial Eligibility

All college-bound student-athletes who wish to practice and compete at a division I or II institution must register with the NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse.  The Clearinghouse will determine a student's eligibility by reviewing an official high school transcript and the official SAT/ACT score.

SAMMY Awards

The SAMMY Awards recognize 25 milk-drinking high school seniors who are at the top of their game when it comes to academics, sports, and community service with a $7,500 scholarship, a trip to Disney World and a spot in a Milk Mustache ad.
