Drawing and Painting the Figure: Critical Issues

Summer Lab at Boston University

Created in 1995, the summer program provides an opportunity for students from the Boston area to develop a deeper understanding of the basic concepts related to biotechnology.  Participants are taught fundamental concepts of bacterial transformation, cell lysis, and protein purification. 

For students entering grades 9, 10, 11, and freshman college.

August 4Th to August 8Th  

9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Fee: $500.00 per week.  Need based scholarships available.

Housing (optional) is available at Boston University Charles River Campus for additional fees.

 

 

High School Health Careers Program

The High School Health Careers Program (HSHCP) is a five-week summer, tuition-free, residential program that offers sophomore and junior year high school students unique opportunities to learn about the broad spectrum of healthcare and science professions.  It is designed to improve the academic study and communication skills of the participants.

MISSION

To increase the number of under-represented and disadvantaged students in the health and science professions in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

DEFINITION 

Disadvantaged individuals include those from economically (i.e. meets Federal Guidelines for low income, poverty and /or free and reduced lunches) and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds (i.e. first generation college graduates). Under-represented individuals include those groups under-represented in medicine, nursing and biomedical research. 

 


 

 

Lifespan Summer Youth Employment Program

Lifespan’s youth employment programs are designed to promote career exploration and youth development. The program offers a nine-week paid summer employment experience at a Lifespan hospital or Lifespan Corporate Services to teens 16 to 19 years old. Eligible youth must reside in selected areas: South Providence, Mount Hope and Newport. Teens are placed in a wide variety of departments throughout Lifespan, including:

  • Radiology
  • Physical Therapy
  • Cardiology
  • Nursing
  • Transport
  • Central Processing
  • Human Resources
  • Food and Nutrition
  • Respiratory Care

Who's Eligible

You must be between 16 and 19 years old and live in*:

  • Mt. Hope
  • Upper South Providence
  • Lower South Providence
  • Newport County 
  • For more information about the Summer Youth Employment Program, please attend one of the following informational sessions:

    • December 4, 2007, 6 - 8 p.m., George Auditorium, Rhode Island Hospital
    • December 5, 2007, 3:30 - 5 p.m., George Auditorium, Rhode Island Hospital
    • January 22, 2008, 4 - 6 p.m., The Miriam Hospital (please meet in the lobby)


Student Trooper Program

The American Legion, Department of Massachusetts,, sponsors the "Student Trooper Program" in cooperation with the Massachusetts State Police.  The program is open to male and female high school students, 15 to 17 years of age, in goo academic standing.  They must be of good moral character and present a well-groomed appearance with hair neatly trimmed (males-clean shaven).


U.S. Military Academy Summer Leaders Seminar

The Summer Leader Seminar provides outstanding high school juniors the exciting possibility to gain a better understanding of the academic, physical, and leadership-development programs at a service academy that features small classes, a caring faculty, professional career preparation, and a foundation for future graduate study.

Summer Leader Seminar is available to juniors who are in the top fifth of their class, are pursuing a college preparatory curriculum, have strong PSAT scores, and have demonstrated leadership potential by participation, election/selection to office, and honors earned in organized athletic and extracurricular activities.
